In the book "The New Psycho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz, a Boston psychologist that coaches pro golfers, named Dr. Gloria Spitalny says:
"By my calculations, the average golfer spends about 86% of their time doing nothing more but wrestling with their thoughts and emotion, feeling one way or another about what is taking place, feeling exhilaration or anger, struggling to keep focused, worrying about what's happened or what is up ahead." It only stands to reason that if 86% of the time spent playing the game is dominated by thought and emotion, not physical action, that 86% of the success/failure determination is due to management of thoughts and emotions, not swing mechanics or putting prowess.
If this is true with professional golfers, it must be true for us in real estate too. All we have are our thoughts and our communication. If 86% of our success is determined by our mindset, our thoughts and emotions, and only 14% is of our success is determined by our actions, are we focused on improving the right things?
Should we be focused on our goals, having a positive mental attitude, feeling good, looking for the opportunities that surround us? Or should we be worried about how to make the next sale? How to approach the next prospect?
All of this is important, obviously. We need to know what to say, how to say it, when to say it and so on. But maybe we are so fearful of the rejection that we have totally forgot to prepare ourselves with the best possible mindset we can create that will allow us to prevail in any situation.
We must remember to adopt the "what ever it takes" attitude in regards to creating a mindset that allows us nothing but success. Remember, it's not what happens that's important, because IT happens to us all. How we respond to what happens to us determins our outcome.
Take the time to develope a strong mindset for success. Read good, possitive, inspirational books, study the great people that have come before us to blaze the trails of success, listen to the audio books, cds and mp3s of all the great stories of success you can find. Read the bible. Soak it all up to create the mindset and success you deserve.
